Coach’s Corner

On Friday 11-30-07 we traveled to our first meet and when the smoke cleared at the El Dorado Tournament in Placentia, the ERHS Mustangs Wrestling team was in Eighteenth Place.

There were fifty five teams participating at the tournament and in the end Nikko Cataline at 140 pounds, made it to the finals.  Nikko came up a little short, taking second place but was the first of, I hope many to wear the new championship singlets.

For our first tournament of the year, it was not a bad showing.  Some other highlights were 285 pound Andrew Cruz going 3-2 with three pins, Dylan Cataline also wrestled tough going 3-2.  Jake Harper and Gary Fuentes battled to a 2-2 record getting some valuable experience in this very tough tournament.

Remember, you must have 10 varsity wins as part of qualifying for your varsity letter, 9 will not do it.  Every varsity win is important.  Don’t let them slip away just because you take a moments break in the match.  It is time for everyone to pick up the pace, train hard and impose your will on your opponent.

Let’s get ready to win our first league dual against Corona so train like a champion and suffer in silence.

You can win if you believe in yourself!
