Big Eight League Championship  2-7-09

This past Saturday at Centennial High School the Big 8 League Wrestling Championships took place and it was a very exciting time.

 

Everyone competed with a lot of heart and desire.  At the end of the day we had six JV wrestlers in the finals and of those six three became JV league champions.

 

Some of the highlights were Dean Sanchez, Chris Onate and Eranga Gunasekera taking home first place in the Junior Varsity League Finals.

 

I am proud of each and every one of you who competed this weekend and look forward to watching your future in the sport of wrestling.

 

Now for the varsity squad, we had seven qualify for CIF and three alternates for a total of ten.  Not bad for a season full of injuries and sickness.

 

Some of the highlights to the weekend were Dylan Cataline at 135 lbs and Gary Fuentes at 215 lbs becoming the newest Big 8 League Champions for Eleanor Roosevelt High School.  Congratulations to both of you, you have left  your mark at the school forever in the sport of wrestling and should be proud of this accomplishment.  Now let’s continue to expand on that mark with CIF, Masters and State Championships this year.

 

Other qualifiers were Jonathan Herrera 3rd 112 lbs, Sean Decker 4th 119 lbs, Jake Harper 3rd 140 lbs, Elias Pacheco 4th 145 lbs, and Dylan Russell 4th 171 lbs.  Alternates were Josh Johnson 5th 125 lbs, Vince Zuniga 5th 130 lbs, and Robert Castro 5th 152 lbs.

 

I have enjoyed coaching each and every one this year and for all you returners I look forward to many exciting moments in the years to come.

 

The future is only a moment away, so don’t blink or you will miss it.
