C.I.F. Eastern Section Wrestling Championships |
|
Citrus Hills, 2-20 and 2-21 2009 Last Friday and Saturday we took 8 wrestlers to the Eastern C.I.F. Wrestling Championships at Citrus Hills H.S. After the first day we still had 6 wrestlers in the mix. Two in the championships and four in consolations. When the dust settled at the end of the weekend Eleanor Roosevelt Mustangs Wrestling had two wrestlers, (135 lb Dylan Cataline & 215 lb Gary Fuentes) take second place and qualify for the Southern Section Masters Wrestling Tournament next Friday & Saturday at Temecula Valley H.S. Some highlights to the weekend was bringing six wrestlers back the second day. Of those six, 130 lb Sophomore Vince Zuniga battled hard, ending the weekend with a three and two record, not bad for an alternate. 112 lb Sophomore Jonathan Herrera and 119 lb Sean Decker went two and two. Josh Johnson for making weight as an alternate even though you did not get into the tournament truly showed a lot of class. All of you did a great job and are lining yourself up for success in the near future. I would like to recognize the following seniors whose H.S. Wrestling has come to an end. First my son Jake Harper who started the season winning two tournaments titles (Chino Hills and Blackwatch) those will always be great memories to both of us, thank you and great job! P.S. I know if you wrestled the whole season you would have qualified for Masters and State this year. But being a three year C.I.F. qualifier isn’t bad in itself, Love You. To Elias Pacheco who was another senior with a short season. You showed great heart for the short time you were able to wrestle this year and you even qualified for CIF and went two and two, great job. P.S. I know your father is very proud of you and enjoyed being in the corner for your final H.S. match. To Dylan Russell, thank you for the stepping up when asked to do so for the team and yes you too also qualified for CIF with a very short season and also going two and two, not bad. Robert Castro, like I told Josh, making weight as an alternate even though you did not get to wrestle in CIF that is top notch in my book, thank you. Now you can rock out to Guitar Hero all you want Ha! Ha! I was very impressed with each and every one of you and how you all battled on the mat. Your parents as well as friends should be proud of your accomplishments this last weekend and there will be more success in near future for all of you both on the wrestling mat and in life. Keep up the hard work in practice and your rewards will be there each and every time your hand is raised in the middle of the circle. Many more team and individual championships are just around the corner. Now Dylan and Gary let’s get ready to attack the Master’s tournament, win it and travel to the California State Championships together. |
