Coach’s Corner  11-4-2009

Here we go again, It’s wrestling season and I’m very excited to see all of the returning as well as the new faces in the wrestling room.  For all of you who worked out over the summer this year, now is the time to pick up the pace and use the skills you acquired in club.  Just watch how much more advanced you have become when you wrestle a guy who didn’t work out in club.

For all of you new faces on the team, get ready for an awesome, exciting experience in this sport of wrestling you have chosen.

This season will be our fourth year as a wrestling program at ERHS.  Many of  you are new, while others are returning for another grueling hardcore season with high goals and great expectations for yourselves.  With hard work each and every one of you can accomplish your goals and become great wrestlers for the team.

I believe each and every one of you is a very talented individual.  Every person will bring their own unique skill to the team.  Remember a team is only as strong as its weakest individual and the sooner everyone gets on the same page, understanding and executing the primary and secondary series, the sooner we become a winning team.

Remember, being a team also requires you to maintain good grades, attitudes, and eighty percent attendance in the wrestling room.  Force your team mates to become better individuals in these areas and this will make our team more successful throughout the year.

Each returning wrestler from last year, take on the responsibility of teaching a new wrestler the series, like I taught you in the past.  Take the time to help others on the mat and the rewards to you will be great throughout the year.

I look forward to this team’s growth and success this year and I believe each and every one of you can and will become a champion for the team.

Train hard and study harder, but most of all, don’t quit on yourself!  A champion is someone who understands how to win and then goes out and does it.

No excuses!!!
